The Champions League are well underway, but there is still a long way to go. We have had a look at the odds for who will win the coveted trophy.

Liverpool won it last season. They might win it again this season. According to the bookies only one team are bigger favorites than the defending champions. But, to defend a Champions League title is rare. Very rare.

Sure, Real Madrid won it three times in a row before Liverpool took the top spot last season, but we have to go a long way back to find the last double winners: AC Milan won it in the 1988/89 season, and then defended the title in 1989/90. And that was the first since Brian Clough won it with Nottingham Forest in both 1978/79 and 1979/80.

Can Real Madrid take it back?

The short answer to this is no. Real Madrid does not look like a team that will challenge for the biggest trophy in Europe this season. The bookmakers agree, and most are offering 15 times your money if you think Zinedine Zidane can capture the clubs 14th title in the Champions League.

Can Pep finally win another one?

There are few who wants this title more than Pep Guardiola. He won the Champions League, or European Cup as it was called then, as a player with Barcelona in 1991/92. He won it again as a manager for Barcelona. First in 2008/09 and then again in 2010/11.

Since then he has tried to win it again, first with german champions Bayern Münich, and the recent years with english champions Manchester City.

According to the bookies, this can finally be Pep’s year. But then again, they said that last season too. And the season before.

We checked with PaddyPower, and here are their numbers for this years winner of the Champions League:

3,75 – Manchester City
6,5 – Liverpool
7,0 – Barcelona
7,5 – Paris Saint Germain
7,5 – Bayern München
10,0 – Juventus
14,0 – Real Madrid
17,0 – Athletico Madrid
23,0 – Tottenham
26,0 – Borussia Dortmund
26,0 – Ajax
31,0 – Napoli
34,0 – Chelsea
